Happy Monday! (#sol18 Day 19/31)

If your everyday life seems poor, don’t blame it; blame yourself; admit to yourself that you are not enough of a poet to call forth its riches.

~ Rainer Maria Rilke, poet and novelist

“Monday, Monday, so good to me
Monday mornin’, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday mornin’, Monday mornin’ couldn’t guarantee…”

(Now that you have that earworm – you’re welcome – let me continue with this post!)

While I don’t dread Mondays in the same way that the meme-producing portion of our population seems to, they still stand out in my week.

Monday is the day when I need to pull myself out of the weekend vibes and get reacquainted with the planning and differentiating part of my brain. Monday is the day when 31 kiddos re-enter our structured environment after spending two days in (sometimes) an environment with less (or any) boundaries. Monday is the day when I hear stories of adventures or mishaps or new toys or crashes or naps.

Monday is the day when I teach Teacher Yoga to my colleagues after school. Monday is the day when I give big hugs to my teaching partners after missing their presence for two days. Monday is the day when I get to envision how awesome this next week of school is going to be.

The fact that this is the last Monday before Spring Break really has no effect on my feelings about this particular Monday. I promise. None. Not a one.

Maybe just a smidgen of an effect.

(That was me, trying to call forth the riches of this very Mondayish Monday.)

“Every other day, every other day
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
A-you can find me cryin’ all of the time”

  1. You’ve made it through Monday…and Tuesday by now. Onward! I’ve imagined having a teacher yoga near the end of the week…but Monday afternoon is genius. A time to clear your head of the Mondays and get on with the week refreshed.

    1. Yep, we’re plugging away over here – one school day at a time! Monday afternoons have turned out to be the perfect Teacher Yoga time. At first, it was just the day that worked the best for folks who could actually come, but now that it’s been our yogaing day all year I can’t imagine it any other way. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. It’s pretty fun! It’s actually the reason I became certified a few years ago. Teaching in the studio is an awesome second job, and I love the community I’ve found there, but this Monday Teacher Yoga class is the most important. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks so much! I had to read that quote a bunch of times this morning when it came across my email. When it started to sink in, I knew it would somehow factor into my slices. โ˜บ๏ธ Hope you had a great Monday!

  2. Happy Monday! We are just returning from our March break, so I really appreciated this. At the breakfast table this morning I asked my kids what they were looking forward to this week. They were uninspired. But I’m a little more like you: not that I *love* Mondays, but there are some pretty good things to look forward to. I wish one of them was yoga – maybe someday soon.
