Wowzas.
One month of daily writing and public posting.
That’s something that I never thought I would do.
I remember seeing the emails earlier this year that announced the upcoming SOL challenge. ‘Huh. That’s a cool idea,’ I thought. Yeah – A cool idea for other folks but not so much for me. Who would want to read my words? What on earth would I have to say that would be worth an audience?
Those thoughts that flew through my brain are the same ones that fly through my students’ brains. Daily.
If I am going to ask my first and second graders to write and share each day, then I’d damn well better be ready to ask the same of myself.
It’s a challenge to create each day.
It’s a challenge to share each day.
It’s a challenge to shift your view of yourself living a writerly life.
And you know what?
It’s totally worth it.

Dear #sol18 community,
Thank you. Thank you for reading, thank you for commenting, thank you for interacting with me this month. You have taught me an important lesson about the value of pointed and regular feedback, and you have encouraged me to keep writing.
This will not be my final Slice of Life challenge – this is simply my first. It sounds like Tuesday shares continue throughout the year, so I look forward to catching up with you on Tuesdays… until next March’s daily interactions!
With love and gratitude,
Kristina ❤️
Yeah – you made it! Congratulations! Hope you continue on Tuesdays. So enjoyed visiting your blog and reading your slices.

I love how you’re comparing seeing yourself in this challenge to the way we ask students to see themselves in our classrooms. I thought the same thing. If I am asking them to do this, write daily and share, I should be willing to do it too. It was scary and hard, but totally worth it! Congrats on finishing the challenge!

Congratulations on making it through your first year! I’m so glad you’re joining on Tuesdays, too! Slicing made me see things like my student-writers do, as well. As you said, “It’s a challenge to shift your view of yourself living a writerly life.”
You are a wonderful writer, and it’s been a joy to get to “know” you through your writing this month! See you Tuesday, and congrats again! 🙂

Congratulations on proving to yourself you could do it! I truly believe that participating in the March SOLSC makes us better teachers because, as you pointed out, it helps us to understand better what it is we are asking our students to do every day.
