Every night, before I go to bed, I make a list of things from that day that I’m grateful for. I’m on day 1837 today and tonight’s list is going to be easy peasy. It can be condensed into one item:
I am grateful for my backyard.
From repeated first tracks on perfect groomers to repeated first tracks through knee-deep poofiness, Snowmass filled me up today. 13 runs, just over 20K vertical feet, and all before noon.
True medicine for the spirit.
Begone, anxious thoughts that haven’t stopped swirling around my poor tired and confused little brain. Enough, already. Begone with you! I banish you into the refilled and vanished squiggle tracks I left, painting my way down through the quiet and unfound basin. You won’t be able to sneak back in my brain tonight because this escape artist knows how to cover her tracks. (And nobody else who loves their skis wants to navigate that chunky rocky chute after today, anyways.)
Be-effing-gone.
I am grateful for my backyard.

See ya tomorrow. 📝
I too have had an anxious day, and although I do not have ski slopes in my backyard (darn), your snowy pictures and clever writing calmed and soothed my spirit. Thank you for sharing.

You have reminded me to also list the things I am grateful for, daily. It is great to see it could be the simple things that can give us so much relief. The words you used to share your trekking experience are perfect; “True medicine for the spirit.”

I just sliced from park city for the week and it was so lovely. I love snow. And I really love the imagery of burying your worries behind you in your tracks. How beautiful. I love your backyard, too! Now back to life on the east coast, wahhh. Thanks for sharing your snow
