Avoid the poo! (#sol26 Day 1/31)

Annnnnnd we’re back! (Said, of course, in your best Will Ferrell voice from Celebrity Jeopardy.)

Here we are in March of 2026. Wowzas! It’s been a year. And by that I mean it has technically been 365 days since SOL ‘25 started and that it’s been a freaking year. I myself am curious about the details that will dribble out over the next month of daily slicing – don’t worry, it’s all very much net positive! – even though most of my slices are rooted in the present and not about rooting around through the past.

Looks like I get to recharge my writing craft muscles, to recalibrate my internal literary navigation systems, and to reestablish this habit of daily writing as I once again choose to make it a monthlong priority.

But really – I am super curious about how this year’s SOL experience will go. Life can feel so wackadoodle different from day to day, you know? At school, I’m neck deep (forehead deep? Overhead deep?!) in the most challenging year I’ve had in 23 years of teaching first and second grade. At home, I’m floating about on clouds of giddy joy as I spend more and more time with my person and the pooch. During the workweek, I’m pushing through the heavy sludgy rivers of regulating 28 nervous systems in the face of daily (minutely?!) behavior landmines and scarily looming teacher burnout. During the weekend, I’m indulging in fresh air, ski days (when there’s actually snow), cozy coffee mornings, doggy walks, some yoga, loads of books, and even some runs, bikes, and swims when there’s not actually snow. Sometimes all that good even feels like it might come close to balancing out the rough. So… we’ll just have to see which version of me shows up here for the next month! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyhoooooo, looks like I’m off to a rambling start. Classic. 🙄 How about this for a refocusing statement: I’ll take a tip this month from the wise floofy pooch and frolic around in The Park of Life with the humans that I love…all while being light on my feet and avoiding the piles of poo.

Let’s do this. Thanks for joining me!

See ya tomorrow. 🥰

(Re: recent books – I just finished listening to The Southern Bookclub’s Guide to Slaying Vampires and was unexpectedly delighted by it! Have you read it? Or are you reading something you’re currently surprised by?)
