Conferences (#sol18 Day 22/31)

My question for today is this: What do you do when a sweet first grader has finally begun to embrace that she is a learning and changing human being who can interact with all of her peers and no longer needs to define herself by being publicly recognized by others as “smart” or “advanced”… but her parents have not yet gained that knowledge and continue to put other people’s children down as they publicly put their sweet daughter up on pedestals?

  1. You don’t worry too much because she’s only six or seven years old and she’s already overcome one of life’s most difficult hurdles on the route to happiness. I think she’s going to be just fine. Now, let’s hope her parents are open to learning something from a child.

  2. Ugh! I don’t know the answer to that question, but I have come to embrace praising my sweet little nieces’ and nephews’ efforts over their intelligence. Don’t stop trying to bridge that gap!
