Two more weeks.
We have two more weeks left of our school year.
(We did move our last day of school up a week. Thank you, remote learning, for that little calendar change.)
Two weeks is not too long, right? It will pass in the blink of an eye, right?
Well, given the vast differences in how each passing day truly seems right now, I don’t actually know. Some days feel like slow, dragging eternities, and other days are somehow done before I even get a handle on what’s going on. So I’m really not sure if two weeks is a long time or not.
What I do know is that I am quite blown away by the level of engagement that is being exhibited by my first and second graders through all of this. They are showing up. They are showing up, they are contributing their voices and their questions, and they are making my heart sing through the computer screen. They are learning, they are making connections, and they are producing content that is unique, insightful, and heartfelt. Knowing that their eager faces are on the other end of the computer is what keeps me motivated to find the depths of energy required to create new and (hopefully) exciting instructional videos for them every day… even especially on those days when my brain is mush and I can’t even figure out how to do my own dishes.
And yet… there’s still a substantial part of me that wishes I was able to tell my students’ parents that they could take this whole remote learning thing off of their huge list of things they have to manage right now. I want to tell them that they can stop dealing with this particular puzzle piece of their intense daily juggle and start focusing on how to set their sweet families up for a successful and fun summer.

Two more weeks.
Yet, I am pretty sure your parents want you to continue right on through the summer as it gives kids a focus and purpose!

Two weeks will definitely pass in the blink of an eye in-between that relatable brain mush feeling! I loved this sentence especially, “They are showing up, they are contributing their voices and their questions, and they are making my heart sing through the computer screen.” Thank you for sharing!
