Rough news? Zooming from 7:30 this morning through 4:30 this afternoon is zapping my brain and my eyeballs.
Super redeeming news? These zooms have all been student-led conferences. For 20 minute chunks, first and second graders have been totally in charge. Thinking back on this wacky year we’ve shared together, reflecting on how they’ve grown as a human and as a student, and making goals to finish the rest of their year strong – it’s been inspiring and heartwarming, to say the least.
Here are some of my favorite snippets from today:
At the beginning of the year, when I wrote I used to: skip words. Now, when I write I: use all I know.
This is what I like about Distance Learning: I get to read stories to the whole school.
I wish my teacher knew: that life is really hard. I thought life was gonna be easy but trying to listen to my parents is really hard.
I am excited about: school!!!!!
My favorite thing about reading is: you get to chill down.

Can’t wait for tomorrow’s insights and smiles from the other half of our class!
I agree, let’s chill down.

This is so lovely. I teach middle schoolers and the best part of my months are my student conferences! I loved that you included their words in your writing.
