Just here for a fun time (#sol24 Day 6/31)

My brain was in no way connected to the rest of my body today.

You know these kinds of days. I know it’s not just me.

The kind of day when I pause myself mid-stride, walking through the classroom, having zero idea what my mission was.

The kind of day when first and second graders ask me about what’s next and I can only give them a blank stare for a second or two before I shake out the cobwebs, admit defeat, and send them off in the direction of my co-teachers.

The kind of day when I go over to our counter to make myself a mid-morning decaf coffee confection and I find myself baffled by the puzzle of deciphering the correct order of buttons I need to push in order to make this habitual and shockingly simple task happen.

Yeah.

You know these kinds of days.

The kind of day when I just shrugged and decided, while sipping my trophy coffee and laughing at how clearly useless I was, that I was really only in school today to be purely delighted by first and second graders.

And friends, was I delighted!

How grateful I am for twenty years of “teacher muscle memory“, two solid and forgiving teaching partners, and 33 delightful humans who were overjoyed to have the space today to tell me ALL of their non sequitur pieces of life.

We’ll try adding that whole teaching thing back in tomorrow.

❤️
