A late but worthy celebration (#sol24 Day 14/31)

I missed National Nap Day.

I know. Booooooo!

Hopefully you celebrated it on the 11th but I just found out about it today, and today turned out to be the perfect day for me to celebrate this important national day of observance.

“But, Kristina, you had student-led conferences all day today and you taught hot yoga this evening, how on earth did you manage to nap?”

Well.

I’m glad you asked.

You see, my Thursdays are for napping.

I’ve been severely anemic this year. After months of tests and iron infusions, it turns out that fibroids are to blame for my extreme and heavy fatigue. As good as it feels to finally know what’s behind this energy drain, it blows having to play the long game and be patient as I work to get my levels back up to normal. I am really starting from scratch here – your girl was DEPLETED.

In order to support this slow progress forward, I’ve been leaving school at noon on Thursdays. The time between noon and 4:30pm is for me, it’s for quiet, it’s for recharging, and it’s been for napping. Every week I find myself rudely awoken by my alarm clock at 4:30pm and every week I am shocked to discover that I actually fell asleep. Like, for real asleep. I guess that means I need it! Seems like this recovery system I set up in January is still something my body desperately craves.

So, on Thursdays I nap.

This nap boosts me enough to have enough oomph for teaching my yoga class. (See photo below for proof of boosting!) Sure, I could have gone with the “stay at school but don’t teach the yoga class” approach, but my heart and soul would have been so sad to miss this weekly addition of community and laughter and connection and movement. Not the right choice for me.

Today’s right choice was to stick to my Thursday nap schedule, even if it was at 2:30pm instead of noon, go home, fall right asleep, get a little recharge, and then head to the studio to teach my Thursday night class. The fact that I also got to celebrate this year’s National Nap Day in all of this is just a bonus.

❤️

See my nap boost?!
