A veritable who’s who of stars! (#sol24 Day 21/31)

We got to cast our scene today for the school’s spring musical. This is one of my favorite things to do with my teaching team. We get to read the script for our scene, reread it another two or three times to make sure we can actually picture the thing (because it’s a totally original script), consider the strengths and aspirations of our 33 kiddos, and then start plugging away.

Mammals, insects, birds, reptiles, humans, humans pretending to be monsters (ahem, Max from “Where the Wild Things Are”) – what a list of creative and brave matches to make!

These role assignments are still fluid for the next day or so, so if someone catches our eye tomorrow in a certain way, then we can move things around. The joy we feel at casting everyone in the just-right role for them (and for the larger scene) is palpable. The eye twinkles increase, the giggles ensue, the wondering deepens, and the connections we’ve made with all of our first and second graders throughout the year/s really come into view.

All this fun and we haven’t even started rehearsals yet?!

Oh, boy. It’s going to be a great show!
