Here’s the backstory you need in order to better appreciate tonight’s little post:
- I teach at the Aspen Community School.
- The Carbondale Community School is another small, public charter school that’s about 20 miles away and run by the same nonprofit as we are.
- I teach first and second grade.
Ahem…
First grader, sitting in my lap, in the gym up at school, waiting for a super cool dance performance to begin: How come they just get to do cartwheels at that other school?
Me: Wait, what? Ask me that again?
First grader: Cartwheels. At the Cartwheel Community School. All they do is cartwheels.
Me: Oh, do you mean the Carbondale Community School?
First Grader: Yeah. That’s what I said. They just do cartwheels. I don’t get it.

Happy Monday. See ya tomorrow! 📝
This is a great capture of 1st grade logic: they know what they know and won’t be told otherwise. I also would love to imagine how the child imagines this school where all they do is cartwheels! Dizzying!
