A Tuesday highlight (#sol26 Day 3/31)

You know how you can spend your whole day at school talking with first and second graders about friendship? About how to be flexible and how to listen with your eyes, ears, AND heart? About how to be a good winner or a good loser or how to play games with grace and with empathy? About how it’s not actually the goal to prove the other person wrong in the fastest and loudest way possible?

And you know how there are some kids who soak this up right away?

And you know how there are some kids who just do not? No matter how many times you talk about it? No matter how many different angles you attempt to approach from?

Well.

When one student who you’d fully assume to be in the latter of those two kid categories points out to the entire class, in a clear and calm voice no less, “It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about fun and friendship”, you happily fix your assumption, you hope that his classmates have a thought to fix their assumptions about him, and you celebrate the bejeezus out of that student and his message in front of all 28 small humans.

That, right there?

Yep.

That was a highlight of my Tuesday.

❤️

See ya tomorrow!

  1. What a great moment! And I love the technique you brought to writing about it. The beginning….”You know how you can spend the whole day talking about….about….about….” I love that parallel list. And I love the shift from the long sentences and paragraphs to the simplicity of the ending lines–what great pacing! This was such a treat to read (along with I’m sure being a treat to experience!)

  2. Me reading the intro: “yes… yes… yes… yes….”

I assumed the story was heading in a negative direction. But then I gave a, “YES!”

    Great slice- great positive vibes!
