Whoopsies! Let’s do a little 5-4-3-2-1 to reset. (#sol26 Day 10/26)

Yep.

It happened.

I totally forgot to write yesterday.

Did I think about it during the day? Absolutely.

Did I try and remind myself as the school day wrapped up? Sure did.

Did I fully space it after a lovely after-school bike ride, dinner, and movie sesh? Uh huh.

So today, at the close of yet another jam packed day, shall we do a little 5-4-3-2-1 action to reset this daily writing habit?

5 things I see:

  • My computer
  • My dry hands that have been scrubbed with soap and water and doused with hand sanitizer more times than I can count today
  • My dirty lenses of my glasses
  • My teaching partner’s chair with her cozy fleece draped across the back
  • My cup of favorite pens that I equally try to use and save

4 things I feel:

  • My left foot falling asleep because it’s tucked underneath me as I sit on my desk chair
  • Grateful for perspective-shifting conversations that I just had with my therapist
  • My clean (!!!!) desk under my arms as I type on my laptop
  • The movement of air around me from the window that’s open in the other room

3 things I hear:

  • The ticking away of seconds on the classroom clock
  • The ever-present ringing in my ears
  • A quiet school building because everyone else has gone home

2 things I smell:

  • My socks because OH MY GOD IT’S BEEN A LONG DAY UP HERE AT SCHOOL
  • The faint leftovers of lavender in the diffuser in the other room

1 thing I like about myself:

  • My ability to find moments of whimsy amidst all of it

5-4-3-2-1 and now we’re done.

See ya tomorrow. ❤️

  1. Oh, that was a real pleasure to read! I totally felt right there with you. Loved the lavender AND smelly socks, the breeze coming through the window and the cozy fleece.

  2. Oh, I like this format — I might keep in mind for those hard to write days. And it’s ok you forgot — We’re all hanging on. I laughed out loud at the smell of your socks — so true! Thanks for sharing your end of the day in a slice.
