The New Year (#solTuesday)

So… 2019, huh?

I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions. Don’t get me wrong – I’m definitely one for reflection and contemplation, but New Year’s resolutions can sometimes feel way too large, too judge-y, and frankly, too unsustainable.

I’ve been trying to narrow in on a smaller intention that can actually be an umbrella statement for this new year. More of a sankalpa – something that I can return my focus to each day, something that doesn’t make me feel like a failure on days when it doesn’t “happen”, something that can spring to mind and act as guidance in times of strife or stress, and something that can boost me forward both personally and professionally.

I think I found it. Maya Angelou’s words twirled into my mind this morning:

Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.

This, I can get behind. A little kindness, a little softness, some increased awareness, and still driven by improvement? Yep. I think I found my sankalpa for 2019.

Let’s do this as best as we can, and when we know better? We’ll do better.

Happy 2019.
