Today’s heart slice is for Mike’s guiding buddy up in Washington. ❤️
Loss is felt deeply
In tiny communities.
Hold your people close.
Hearts join from afar
Through telephone lines and texts.
All instantly there.
Mountains bring peace AND
Their immutable boundaries
Can slice it away.
We come together
To feel connected and loved
When a friend is gone.

Your eloquent words.
Consoling. Capturing love.
My condolences.

As someone who spends more than his fair share of time in the mountains, I’m struck by the third stanza, how it intertwines the sublime peace in such landscapes with risks that simultaneously reside there. I’m sad for your loss, even as I suspect there are joyful memories to recollect, too.

Thank you. The existence of both what fills our hearts and breaks them – those mountains sure are humbling. 🙏🏼
