Counting ‘em down (#sol24 Day 23/31)

Before fleeing away into our Spring Break, our class started a favorite tradition last week: The Book Bracket!

This will be our third (I think?!) year of doing a book bracket with our first and second graders and it’s a total highlight of the year.

All we had to do last week was hang up a blank 2024 book bracket poster and the second graders went WILD. The first graders exchanged confused glances as their seasoned older classmates bounced around and spouted off memories of last year’s winner (Llama Destroys the World).

We’ve got a stack of teacher-selected delightful read alouds (no repeats from the past two years!), we’ve updated the bracket with two books already read and voted upon, we’ve discussed the importance of voting and having your voice counted, we’ve brainstormed ways to deal with the possibility of disappointment, and we are fully IN IT.

All of this excitement will be continued next week when we’re back from Spring Break!
